Twitter Leads to Creation of A New Beer

Who would have thought that something as simple as a 140 characters would eventually lead to a twitter inspired brew?

A new beer from the UK called #MashTag is going to be the first alcoholic beverage created by social media users.

British Company, Brew Dog has launched a drink that came out of fan votes to determine everything from its name to it’s alcohol count. Literally, almost every aspect of the beer was chosen by fans.

The result was a beer named #Mashtag, which is a 7.5% American Brown Ale, made with some good ol New Zealands hops and is aged on hazelnuts and oak chips. (I have to admit that writing this post is making me a bit thirsty)

Fans voted for the brew’s name off a list of suggestions. The company, Brew Dog, also encouraged users to design the bottle label. The winning design from the fan base is featured on the bottle. I have to admit that the label isn’t the most appealing, but who cares …it’s about what’s on the inside, not the outside!

Like any other beer, you can purchase #MashTag by the bottle or six pack. I will probably be trying to get some in the near future. Will you be buying this brew any time soon, or did you in any way contribute to its creation? Also, do you think that companies should start using social media more when it comes to the creation of new products?

  • Wow. This is actually quite funny. It’s amazing the things social networks can do these days. It looks actually quite nice! I’ll definitely be sharing this with my friends. They’ll be quite amazed with this. I’m surprised this hasn’t spread to the United States yet. I’m curious to how many people would actually buy it. It could boost revenue in businesses! 😀
