7 Awesome Websites to Listen to Free Music Online

There are many websites today on the internet that computer users can use for their entertainment purposes and this will include listening to their favorite music. Most of these sites provide listeners with an interface where they will be able to search and find their favorite songs with ease and this is through the ability of searching for songs using their names, the artists name as well as using the album’s name if applicable.

Most of these sites are designed to provide users with different playlists and music genres like hip hop, reggae, rock, pop, soul, techno and many others – all for free (in most cases) – and some even match songs to the listeners’ music taste and make recommendations, great for exploring new bands and songs!

1. Grooveshark

grooveshark

One of the most popular ways today of listening to music online is through Grooveshark. This site allows you to search for a song, artist or even album with a massive database that will make it possible for you to listen to just about anything. This site also allows users to create their own playlist or alternatively users can let it auto play and this is where the site chooses similar songs to those that the user has already played.

The interface for his website is simple and easy to use. Grooveshark also has a paid subscription option which will provide users with additional functionalities and at the same time it will remove the advertisements from the interface. Grooveshark was first streamed on Ustream.tv and today it has over 35,000,000 registered users.

2. Spotify

spotify

Spotify is another music streaming service that provides streaming of selected music from a wide range independent record labels and this will include Universal, Sony, Warner Music Group and EMI among others.

Spotify was launched in October, 2008 by a Swedish company known as Spotify AB. Today this service is available in several countries including the US, UK, Germany, Spain, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, Finland and the Faroe Islands. This system can be accessed using Microsoft Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Digital TV, Telia and mobile devices that run on Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian S60, iOS, limited beta releases of Blackberry OS, MeeGo, WD TV,Sonos, Boxee, Squeezebox and webOS. Users can log in this system using their Facebook accounts and this will give them a free trial period of six months. After the trial starts making tracks unavailable once they are played five times together with a listening limit of ten hours a month.

3. Soundcloud

soundcloud

Another famous online music system is called Soundcloud – which is also great for sending stand alone tracks such as interviews and podcasts. This system can alternatively be used with a drop box in case the user wants to send several tracks in a zip file.

4. Google Play

google-play

Google Play is more than just listening to music online – it seems to be Google’s new Entertainment Media Center (watch the amazing video below and you’ll understand), where you can download movies, listen to music, check out the newest Android Apps or even just read a book – Amazon beware!

After installing the software on your local machine, it scans all the songs you have and they are instantly uploaded to the cloud, where Google keeps your beloved MP3 files safe and better, accessible from anywhere via a slick and easy online music player!

5. TuneIn Radio

tunein

TuneIn Radio is another application users can use to listen to music online – especially for those who loved the old fashioned radio format, where someone actually plays music for you – not a computer.

This app has a browsing screen that allows users to search for specific songs or they can use the predefined categories. The best thing with this app is it includes a ‘Local Radio’ option that allows users to listen to radio stations available in their area. Available in both mobile and web versions, we highly recommend this app due to their big selections of radio sations from all over the world and great user interface.

6. Pandora Radio

pandora

Pandora Radio is one of the most important music streaming services on the Internet and not to say one of the most intelligent music matching logarithms out there. While using the player (via website, phone, tablet etc) you tell the system what music you like and it will match new music to your taste. It’s quite impressive and most important, very accurate! If you still don’t know it, go check it out and you’ll be impressed by how well they are able to match your music style to the artists and songs they recommend to you.

Can I play Pandora in my business? What people usually don’t know is that you cannot just legally play Pandora in your business, but through DMX it is possible to pay a very low monthly fee (today at only $ 24.95) so you can play Pandora freely in your restaurant, gym, office or anywhere else.

7. Last.fm

lasfm

This is another service you probably already used or at least heard of. Last.fm is a famous online music site that was founded in 2002 in the UK. Users download what they call an Audio Scrobbler that will then build a detailed profile about their music habits so they can deliver personalized recommendations for every single Last.fm listener, every single day.

  • Good article, I listen to lot of music online while browsing. My favorite is Pandora I’m wanting to discover more artists online, or to listen to my favorite bands. I haven’t heard of Spotify. But it looks like a strong contender for streaming music while I browse. Going to check that one out for sure!

  • Great review of two of my favorite words…Free and Music. Most of these free music programs I was already aware of but you actually brought a new one into my knowledge with the Grooveshark review. It sounds like a program for listening to music that I will try out, I’ll let you know how I like it.

  • Rdio will also give you a free period when you first sign up. They also have been giving me a certain amount of free listening time each month as well since first started testing them out. They are very similar to Spotify, and have an equally large catalog of music.

  • Free and music – Words that belong together. Out of those you listed, I have used Spotify, Last.fm, and Pandora. I generally use Pandora on my phone during my workouts since it has a very simple Android app. I’ve been anxious to try the Spotify Android app, but the last time I checked you had to be a paying member to access it via Android devices. Is that still the case?

  • Very, very helpful list. I do not have the budget to buy a lot of music right now, but music is always a necessity. I think I will try Grooveshark to begin with. Thank you!

  • I am surprised Spotify and Pandora are not at the top of the list. They are the only two I have heard of from this list. Everyone is talking about Spotify on Facebook. I have never used it, but it seems to be fairly popular.

I love using Pandora. Especially to try to find some new music to listen to. I really like being able to set the radio stations to fit my tastes.

I will definitely be checking out some of the other sites you posted to see if there is anything I like. Thanks for the article!

  • Thank you for the tips,

I usually use Youtube but I am tired of the ads. And Deezer is not a good as it used to be. I will check those websites

Why didn’t you speak about Spotify? Did you avoid it because most of the people know them or is there another reason?

  • Awesome post. I can highly recommend GrooveShark. I use it daily at work and they have got all the artist/genre I listen to. On top of that, I was able to discover new artist/genre by listening to other’s custom playlist.

  • I am currently use my local radio to listen to music online, but have used Spotify and Lastfm in the past but I must thank you for a really good post especially as I found Grooveshark again. I had used Grooveshark before in the past and my computer went haywire and forgot what that site was called.
It unfortunate that a lot of these sites now days can’t seem to broadcast outside of the U.S I used to love listening to them over here in the U.K.

  • I have been a GrooveShark user for ever. I love how fast the website is and they have practically every song! I wish I could use Spotify though, I have heard good things. Too bad it isn’t available at my location! Soundcloud is great for listening to new artists and user made content

  • I’ve used a bunch of these services, but they never seem to have any of the kind of music I listen to. If they really want to reach out to more audiences, I believe they should include broader ranges of music. I’ll check out the ones I havent used before, but I have doubts if they will have the music I listen to.

  • Spotify in my hear <3

  • heart* haha
